2024 Roussanne
Our Roussanne is a fun block to work with. It is very small, only 3 rows, so we had to have our farming practices on point as there was no margin for error. Roussanne can be big and oily, almost like a white wine for red wine drinkers. It has some weight and means business.
Our "red wine drinker's white wine" is back and in business. The 2024 Roussanne is the sixth release of our Estate Riverview Vineyard.
Tasting notes
Bountiful aromas of fresh fig, plum, baked pear, and a gentle touch of toasted barrel. On the palate, richer tones of papaya and cantaloupe bring weight and warmth. There is sense of pause, like the moment before guests arrive at a dinner party… everything is in place and possibility is in the air.
Other notes
In January 2024, Washington experienced an unusual cold event that affected various wine-growing regions differently. Areas at higher elevations suffered significant bud damage due to the freeze. However, vineyards at lower elevations, such as those in the Wahluke Slope, were less impacted. This resilience is attributed to the region's proximity to the Columbia River, which helps moderate temperatures and reduce frost risk. Throughout the growing season, the Wahluke Slope experienced typical conditions characterized by warm temperatures and low precipitation. These conditions facilitated consistent vine growth and grape ripening. Overall, despite the early-season freeze, the 2024 growing season yielded high-quality fruit.
